Why consider this programme?

First line managers may still engage in some of the tasks performed by their fellow team members, but this does not constitute their primary function. They are managers who also practice. This means that they will engage much more extensively in managerial tasks which other team members will not engage in. This programme will equip all participants to manage this dual role more effectively.

Who is it for?

The Level 3 Introductory Certificate in First Line Management aims to give practising or potential Managers the foundation for their formal development in this role. The programme has two primary objectives:

  • to assist participants in gaining the basic knowledge required by a manager
  • to develop basic management skills

What will people learn?

Over a minimum of 36 guided learning hours, excluding assessment.

Ten segments (minimum) of 3 hours each as follows:

  • Problem Solving Skills
  • Planning Change
  • Using Information for Decisions, plus

Plus at least a further seven segments selected from the full range available in the Certificate in First Line Management with not more than three from any one module overall:

  • time management
  • managing self
  • management skills & competency
  • understanding organisations
  • managing change
  • managing activities

What will people achieve?

Upon successful completion people will achieve the award of Introductory Certificate in First Line Managent, as well as the experiential training to effectively apply their learning in the workplace.


Progression

Successful participants may benefit from career enhancement, and/or may progress to:

  • Level 3 or 4 S/NVQ in Management depending upon their workplace responsibilities,
  • Level 4 Introductory Diploma in Management or Diploma in Management
  • another qualification at a suitable level within or outside the National Qualifications Framework as appropriate to their needs
